A vertical forest is developing on two skyscrapers in Milan, IT


The italian architectural design studio Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra) is building a skyscraper with its own fresh air factory. Once complete, the two high risers will host 900 trees, each from ten to 30 feet high. They will be irrigated primarily by the buildings grey water, the runoff from showers, dishwashers, washing machines, etc.. 5,000 shrubs and 11,000 plants will keep the trees company. Construction on the buildings is complete, cranes have begun lifting the first trees into place, completion is due end of 2013.
